UHB-ZK Centrifugal Slurry Pump

  • Product Overview:
The UHB-ZK series is a heavy-duty, single-stage, single-suction cantilever centrifugal slurry pump engineered to handle media that are simultaneously highly corrosive and highly abrasive. The wetted components are constructed from a robust steel matrix lined with Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE). This composite structure provides exceptional wear resistance and resists environmental stress cracking. Featuring a semi-open impeller design, it ensures smooth internal passage for solid-bearing slurries, fine particles, and crystallizing fluids in hydrometallurgy and chemical processing.

  • Flow Range: 5 to 1,400 m³/h
  • Head Range: 20 to 80 meters
  • Design Pressure: 1.6 MPa
  • Operating Temperature: -20°C to +80°C
  • Wetted Material: Steel-lined UHMWPE (8–20 mm thickness)
  • Impeller Type: Semi-open (standard) / Closed
Corrosion and Abrasion Resistance

Corrosion and Abrasion Resistance

The pump utilizes a composite structure: an outer steel matrix handles structural loads up to 1.6 MPa, while the internal Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) lining provides dual resistance to strong acids and abrasive particulate wear.

8-20 mm UHMWPE Lining

8-20 mm UHMWPE Lining

An exceptionally thick 8 to 20 mm UHMWPE lining provides a substantial wear allowance. This ensures that the service life in severe chemical slurry duty far exceeds that of traditional cast-iron or thin-lined centrifugal pumps.

Semi-Open Impeller Design

Semi-Open Impeller Design

The standard semi-open impeller lacks a front cover plate, optimizing the internal flow channel. This prevents clogging when handling dense slurries, crystalline media, and liquids containing significant volumes of suspended solid impurities.

Multi-Configuration Shaft Seals

Multi-Configuration Shaft Seals

Depending on the specific industrial application, the pump can be equipped with various seal configurations, including K-type dynamic seals, single-end mechanical seals, cartridge seals, or double-end mechanical seals, ensuring leak-tight operation.

Comprehensive Engineering Guide: UHB-ZK Centrifugal Slurry Pumps

In hydrometallurgy, phosphate fertilizer production, and flue-gas desulfurization (FGD), fluid transfer systems are subjected to dual destructive forces: severe chemical corrosion and intense mechanical abrasion. Standard metal pumps degrade rapidly from acid attack, while conventional plastic pumps lack the mechanical resilience to withstand the continuous scouring of solid particles. The UHB-ZK centrifugal slurry pump addresses these compounding challenges by integrating a steel-reinforced casing with an ultra-thick UHMWPE lining, delivering sustained performance in abrasive slurry applications.

Material Science: The UHMWPE Advantage

The defining feature of the UHB-ZK sludge pump is its wetted material: Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE). This engineering polymer possesses exceptional characteristics specifically suited for aggressive slurry environments.

First, UHMWPE offers excellent chemical inertness. It safely handles sulfuric acid up to concentrations of 80% and nitric/hydrochloric acid up to 50% across an operating temperature range of -20°C to +80°C. This allows a single pump design to be deployed across various acidic, alkaline, and salt-laden processes within a facility.

Second, UHMWPE exhibits an extremely low coefficient of friction and phenomenal abrasion resistance—often outperforming carbon steel and hardened cast iron in wear tests. To maximize this property, the UHB-ZK series features an exceptionally thick lining, ranging from 8 mm to 20 mm depending on the pump size. This thick sacrificial wear allowance guarantees a prolonged operational lifespan, even when transferring highly abrasive ore pulps or phosphate slurries that would rapidly erode thin-film lined chemical pumps.

Impeller Design and Fluid Dynamics

Handling dense, solid-bearing fluids requires specialized internal geometry. The standard UHB-ZK pump utilizes a semi-open impeller. Unlike closed impellers that feature both a front and rear shroud, the semi-open design eliminates the front shroud. This creates a wider, less restrictive flow passage through the volute casing.

This design is highly advantageous for slurry transfer. It significantly reduces the likelihood of internal clogging when pumping fibrous materials, heavy sludges, or media prone to crystallization as temperature drops. For specific applications where the fluid has a very low solids content and maximum hydraulic efficiency is the primary goal, a closed-type impeller can be specified, but the semi-open configuration remains the industry standard for abrasive chemical slurry pumping.

Structural Configurations: Standard vs. Heavy-Duty

The UHB-ZK series is manufactured in two primary structural configurations to accommodate varying torque loads and physical weights across its extensive flow range (5 to 1400 m³/h).

  • Small-Capacity Structure (Inlet ≤ 200mm): These models utilize a bracket-mounted design. The pump casing itself does not have individual mounting feet; instead, the bearing bracket and the motor share a common, rigid baseplate. For models with an inlet of ≤ 125mm, the bearings are sealed and grease-lubricated, requiring no additional oil maintenance. Models with an inlet > 125mm utilize an oil-lubricated bearing housing requiring N46 machine oil.
  • Large-Capacity Structure (Inlet ≥ 250mm): Designed for massive fluid transfer in primary mining and FGD circuits, these models employ a full suspension structure. The heavy pump casing features dedicated mounting feet, securing the immense weight directly to the foundation. All bearings in this size category are oil-lubricated to dissipate the significant thermal loads generated by high radial forces.

Advanced Shaft Sealing Options

Shaft sealing is critical when handling abrasive slurries, as solid particles can quickly destroy standard mechanical seal faces. The UHB-ZK offers multiple seal configurations tailored to the specific gravity and abrasiveness of the medium.

The standard configuration utilizes a K-type dynamic seal (oil seal combined with an auxiliary impeller). During operation, the auxiliary impeller generates a counter-centrifugal force that pushes the slurry away from the shaft, preventing particles from contacting the primary seal lip. When the pump stops, a parking seal mechanism engages to prevent leakage. For applications requiring stringent environmental emission controls, customized single or double-cartridge mechanical seals with external clean-water flushing plans (to keep the seal faces clear of particulates) can be engineered by our technical team.
