A governmental water authority in Izhevsk, Russia, was upgrading pumping capacity at a municipal wastewater treatment facility. The stations on the upgrade list handle raw incoming sewage: large continuous flow, fibrous and solid debris in the stream, and an expectation of unattended operation between scheduled inspections. The authority specified submersible wastewater pumps sized for the station duty, and YFTEL supplied 400WQ2000-22-200 units to meet it.
The Duty
Municipal sewage lifting is a demanding service in three ways. The flow is large and continuous, in this case a station duty of 2,000 cubic metres per hour against 22 metres of head per pump. The liquid carries rags, fibrous material, and grit, so the pump must pass solids without clogging, because a blocked pump at a sewage station is an emergency callout, day or night. And the installation is a wet well: the pump works submerged in the sewage it is moving, in all seasons, with reliability expectations that come with public infrastructure.
The Solution
The 400WQ2000-22-200 is a submersible wastewater pump rated at 2,000 cubic metres per hour and 22 metres of head, driven by a 200 kW motor built into the submerged unit. The design sits directly in the wet well, so the station needs no separate pump house, no long suction lines, and no priming of any kind: the pump is always flooded and always ready to run. The non-clog hydraulic design passes the solids and fibrous material that raw sewage carries, and the submersible layout keeps the entire rotating assembly below liquid level, where it runs cool and quiet regardless of weather above the well. For a facility in a region with long cold winters, a submerged pump is also inherently protected from the freezing exposure that threatens dry-installed equipment.
Why Submersible Fit This Station
For municipal sewage lifting, the submersible layout removes more failure modes than it adds. There is no suction system to lose prime, no shaft seal exposed to atmosphere to maintain, no surface equipment room to heat and ventilate, and the wet well itself provides the cooling the motor needs. Maintenance is lift-out access: the pump comes up the guide rails for inspection and goes back down the same way, which keeps the authority's own crew self-sufficient between service intervals.
The Result
The pumps were installed in the wet wells, commissioned, and put into station duty. The upgraded stations now handle their design flow on the authority's normal inspection schedule, with the non-clog hydraulics running the raw sewage stream without the blockage events that define a bad sewage pump.
