A chemical producer in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, approached YFTEL with a transfer duty that had already consumed two conventional pumps: a corrosive slurry stream carrying fine abrasive solids between reaction and downstream processing. The combination of chemical attack and particle wear is exactly the condition where standard cast iron and stainless steel pumps fail early, and the plant needed a transfer pump that could run continuously without frequent wetted-part replacement.
The Challenge
The slurry combined three difficulties in one line: a chemically aggressive carrier liquid, suspended fine solids that abrade wetted surfaces, and a continuous duty cycle that left little room for maintenance stops. Previous pumps on the service had suffered from rapid casing wear and seal leakage, and each failure meant unplanned downtime on a production line that runs around the clock.
The Solution
YFTEL supplied a UHB-ZK65/30-50 slurry pump, a centrifugal pump built for corrosive-abrasive service. The wetted casing is lined with ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, a material that resists both chemical corrosion and the sliding abrasion of fine particles, with a lining thickness of 8 to 20 mm that provides a substantial wear allowance before the metal shell is ever exposed. The semi-open impeller handles suspended solids without the clogging tendency of closed designs, and the pump's simple structure keeps routine inspection and wear-part replacement straightforward for the plant's own maintenance team.
Why UHMWPE Lining Fits This Duty
For slurries where the solids are fine and the carrier is corrosive, UHMWPE lining offers a combination that metal pumps struggle to match: corrosion resistance across a wide range of acids, alkalis, and salt solutions, abrasion resistance that exceeds many metals against fine particles, and a smooth surface that resists scaling and buildup. The lining is molded integrally with the metal casing, so it carries the mechanical loads of the pump while keeping the process fluid away from the steel shell.
The Result
The pump was installed, commissioned, and put into continuous transfer service. The lined construction removed the corrosion-driven failures that had ended the previous pumps, and the wear allowance built into the lining extended the interval between wetted-part inspections. The plant now runs the transfer duty on a planned maintenance basis, with wear checks scheduled into normal shutdowns instead of emergency repairs.
